Blocks is a series of still life images that uses wooden cubes to explore space, form and tonality. I am interested in using minimal objects and materials to create scenes that can be altered substantially with modifications to the lighting, background and props.

 

This series illustrates the spacial relationships of the various blocks in each photograph. The placement of each cube within the space was deliberate. The shape of the blocks was a central element of the project. I wanted to see what could be created out of the simple, six-sided structures. The flat surfaces of each cube stress the changes in tonality. The use of color further pushes the concept of each scene and establishes a whimsical ambience.
